Last month, I suggested that we focus on two broad categories: What to do and how to do it. Every job, but especially management’s requires hard and soft skills. Hard skills are those required to carry out the work. Soft skills, communication, team work, relationships etc are at least as important as hard ones and in a diverse or highly challenged environment team leaders’ soft skills can make or break a team. However, several of our clients are facing similar critical “hard” issues with cash pooling, liquidity planning and managing bank relationships.

E-Banking-Fraud, Risiken und Lösungen

E-banking ist für Privatpersonen gut geeignet und sicher, solang man sich an die Sicherheitsvorschläge der Industrie hält. Bei einem Corporate mit vielen Bankverbindungen weltweit müssen Cash Manager lokale Gepflogenheiten bzw. nationale Vorschriften einhalten. Die Logins sind manuell und zeitintensiv und die Daten lassen sich selten in der Buchhaltungssoftware zum Ausziffern nutzen. Das macht diese e-bankings nicht mehr zeitgemäss.
Die Online Zeitschrift Inside-it.ch und Melani (die zentrale Meldestelle beim Bund in Bern) warnen in diesen Wochen vor Betrug im Corporate elektronischen Zahlungsverkehr. Beide Warnungen weisen auf zwei Betrugsmuster hin: (1) Unbekannte Emails mit Dokumentbeilagen und (2) das Erschleichen von Vertrauen via Email. Nach Gesprächen mit zehn Klienten bestätigen drei, dass das Erschleichen von Vertrauen bei ihnen stattgefunden hat, wobei die kriminellen Zahlungen knapp verhindert werden konnten. Bei einem Kunden konnte die Zahlung dank neuen zentralen Datenleitungen zu Transaction-Banken mit neuen Prozessen und Abläufen verhindert werden.
Laut Sicherheitsexperten und gemäss meinen Erfahrungen werden solche Betrugsfälle bei Corporates zunehmen. Lösungen sind sofortiges Training und Schulungen (bietet Tomato an), gefolgt von der Planung und Umsetzung von dedizierten Datenleitungen zu einigen wenigen Hausbanken wo der Konzernzahlungsverkehr stattfinden sollte. Neuer Videocast zum Thema Cashpools
Im Blog Cashpooling im Licht des Bundesgerichturteils Okt 2014 haben wir unsere Ansicht zum Bundesgerichturteil, die wir gemeinsam mit Kollegen gebildet haben, vorgestellt. Weltweite Bankverbindungen: Optimierungen für Treasurer

Seminar zu Rechnungslegung und Liquidität
Die Eidgenössische Finanzmarktaufsicht (Finma) veröffentichte zwei Rundschreiben, eins zu Rechnungslegung, das andere zu Liquidität. Beide sind seit 1.1.15 in Kraft.
Im Januar Newsletter erklärte unser langjährige Leser und Rechnungslegungsspezialist Rolf Lehmann die wichtigsten Punkte zu den Änderungen der Rechnungslegung.
Die Fachschule für Bankwirtschaft wird an einem Seminar die zahlreichen Umsetzungsfragen erklären. Der Anlass findet statt am Dienstag, 24. März 2015, von 8.45 bis 17.00 Uhr, im Zunfthaus Saffran in Zürich statt.

Soft Skills Are Key Part of Management’s Skill Set
While technical skills are key for anybody in corporate finance and IT, soft skills are also becoming a key component of an employee’s skillset. An article in treasurytoday.com lists those skills that managers should strive to encourage. They include teamwork, time management, communication, listening, and public speaking.
The article adds details to each skill, suggests how to put the theory in action and the benefits that will be gained. Full story…
When It IS Worth Fighting over Problems at Work
In last month’s newsletter, we listed five situations that are not worth fighting over at work. In the Wall St. Journal article “To Fight or Not to Fight? When to Pick Workplace Battles”, Sue Shellenbarger also offered winning strategies to use before engaging in battle. Here’s what you should do:
- Plan how you’ll describe the problem and draw the other person into helping how to solve it.
- Ask yourself if you’ll be able to control your emotions during the discussion
- Tell someone you trust your position to test whether you get support
- Ask yourself if you’ll be able to deal with any criticism that may be thrown at you
- Raise the issue with someone who has the power to do something about it
- Bring up the issue as soon as you know it’s going to be problem

Life/work balance is a recurring topic and obviously something many in business try to get a grip on. Negativity is among the worst downers as it makes us miserable and limits our ability to accomplish goals and enjoy life.
