Tomato's Name: Its Origin and Meaning

Liquidity in liquidity

With the creation of Tomato in 1992, one of the key decision points was finding a company name. The company was going to consult in cash and risk management, payments and treasury; and we were looking for a name that's easy to remember.

Some decision points:

  • Founder Martin Schneider wanted the letters TOM in the name, referring to our brand - Treasury on Motivation - enjoying the daily challenges and being motivated
  • By chance, we learned about Tomato Bank, Ltd, a Japan-based regional bank. While traveling in California around the same time, we discovered TomatoBank, a Chinese bank headquartered in California.
  • The next thought: If Apple works for a computer company, then why not Tomato for our new company?
  • Most importantly, Tomato has more liquidity than any other fruit. Nothing matters more for a company's financial health than liquidity. Nothing matters more for us human beings than getting enough liquids. We can't survive without liquidity.

We at Tomato are dedicated to your company's liquidity. We address it, search it, keep it and improve it; we process liquidity within your company and with your partners and clients, focusing on easy flows.

Cash Is King! Keep your liquidity high!
